Resumo:
Com a presente dissertação explora-se a ligação e interacção entre o lugar e a peça construída. Analisando a maneira como os lugares devem participar nos projectos, assume-se como um exercício sobre a obra idealizada e que se materializa numa forte relação com o pré-existente, a natureza. O interesse pelo estudo deste tema foi suscitado pelos primeiros projectos e reforçado no último ano académico. O lugar, na Trafaria, território evidentemente envelhecido e abandonado, é, no entanto, espantoso pela diversidade de elementos que a paisagem proporciona, pelo privilégio do sítio e da proximidade com Lisboa.
Procuramos o registo e o método de quatro arquitectos em três obras emblemáticas, que se assemelham ao lugar em estudo: Álvaro Siza Vieira, e a continuação da paisagem; a correcta leitura do território e dos gestos essenciais que se concretizam na valorização do lugar. Louis Kahn, e imaginar o lugar; a importância da memória, do desenho; consultar o passado para formular um conceito arquitectónico actual estabelecendo fortes ligações ao sítio. Herzog & de Meuron, e construir o lugar; a manipulação do edifício pré-existente surge como ponto de partida para a construção de um espaço contemporâneo que dialoga com o tempo e procura reinventar a cidade.
São obras em sintonia com os territórios, funcionam portanto, como os alicerces da criação individual que procura expressar e reforçar a poética do próprio sítio na Trafaria: O cais de embarque, as residências e a casa do cineasta João Botelho.
A experiência sensorial na obra requer, necessariamente, tempo para a entender.
Procuramos evidenciar o papel da fotografia, do desenho e de simulações que registam atmosferas, instantes que caracterizam e nos contam a vida deste sítio e do espaço arquitectónico. Imagens capazes de substituir palavras por sensações. Por fim, apela-se à compreensão de um outro tempo, que envelhece os materiais e que altera os usos da peça. A própria vida encarregar-se-á de nos esclarecer a intemporalidade do espaço construído. (Bernardo Tavares Casanova de Sousa)

Abstract:
Throughout this work one draws particular attention to the interplay between the place and the built piece. While scanning the way places should participate in the projects, this work is an exercise about the work one idealizes and the materialized one, and which has an evident connection with the pre-existing one, the nature. The interest for this theme study arose from the first academic projects further developed during the last school year. The chosen site, Trafaria - despite neglected and ageing - is nevertheless amazing, due to the diversity of its landscape specific location and the proximity to Lisbon.
We chose the mark and the method of three major works of four outstanding architects which are somehow similar to the place under study; Álvaro Siza Vieira, and the extension of landscape; the correct interpretation of the place and the primal gestures which lead to the valuation of the place; Louis Kahn, imagining the place; the importance of memory and drawings; searching the past to build an updated architectonic concept with a deep relationship to the place and finally Herzog & de Meuron, building the site; the re-engineering of the pre-existing building as the basis for the construction of a contemporary one which deals with time and thrives for the city renewal. These are major works that stand in deep harmony with their sites. They
function as basis for the individual creation in Trafaria, a creation that thrives to express and underline the very poetics of the site itself; the quay, the residences for film makers and the house of film director João Botelho.
Feeling and seeing the work imply necessarily time to understand it. We tried to enhance the role of photography, drawing and simulations that freeze settings and moments which record the history of the village and the architectonic site. Images that definitely call for sensations, not words. Last but not the least, one recalls another time, time that turns materials older, time that change the use of the built piece. Life itself will tell us about the timelessness of the built space. (Bernardo Tavares Casanova de Sousa)
